Unrestored, highly original and documented with the tank
sticker, this 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible has twice
been awarded NCRS Second Flight honors. Sold new at
Gordon Wilson Chevrolet in Murray, Utah, it is equipped
with the matching-numbers L71 427/435 HP tri-power
big-block V-8 engine. Corvette engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov
introduced the big-block V-8 into the lineup for the 1965 model
year, a new dimension to the cars already sensational
performance. The L71 expanded the role of the big-block engine,
which in 1967 was identified by a new, sharp, pseudo hood scoop
and 427 callouts on either side of a contrasting Stinger stripe.
Positioned at the top of the lineup, the L71 was topped with three
inline Holley 2-barrel carburetors hidden beneath a triangular
open-element air cleaner. Its 435 HP rating was the
highest ever in a production Corvette to that time. The triple
2-barrel carburetion system was no gimmick; its progressive
linkage first opened the center carburetor for low-speed operation,
then opened the front and rear carbs in progression to rapidly
but smoothly launch its host unrelentingly
to its top speed of more than 140 MPH.
This 1967 Sting Ray convertible retains its mostly original Marina
Blue paint, accented here with a white Stinger, the blue auxiliary
hardtop and white soft top, and the original interior, including
the carpet. It additionally features a Muncie M21 close-ratio
4-speed and Positraction, factory side exhaust, transistor ignition,
Soft Ray-tinted windshield, an AM/FM radio and white-stripe tires
on Rally wheels, and its documentation includes an NCRS
Shipping Data Report and NCRS Second Flight certificates dated
1988 and 1989.
At just 38,000 believed-original miles, this 1967 Corvette
is one of the most carefully preserved examples of this great
vintage.
