Cauley Ferrari is very excited to offer this beautiful, collector grade, low mileage 1984 Ferrari 400i finished in a very elegant Grigio Metallizzato exterior over a Tabacco Leather interior. Not only is this is a very stunning example but it's also a relatively rare find as well.The 400i traces its roots from the 365GT4 2+2 which was produced from 1972 through 1976 of which 524 were produced. The 400 Automatic and 400 GT replaced the 365 GT4 2+2. The 400 Automatic was the first Ferrari to be offered with an automatic transmission which in this case was a 3-Speed unit. A total of 355 400 Automatic's were produced compared with only 147 manual transmission 400 GT's for a grand total of 502 produced from 1976 through 1979.The 400i replaced the 400 and came equipped with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel. The 400i was slightly less powerful than the 400 but emissions were much improved and complied with U.S. Standards. The 400i was produced from 1979 through 1985. 883 Auto versions compared with just 422 GT's. In 1982 the 400i received a substantial update. New camshaft profiles and exhaust headers raised horsepower to a very respectable 315. The interior was significantly revised, gaining different upholstery, door panels, center console, and new electronic switchgear. On the exterior, a narrower grill left the rectangular fog lights exposed while the venting on the engine bonnet was changed from silver to body color. New more elegant wing mirrors were fitted and included a small Ferrari shield. The rear panel was bod-colored instead of Matte Black and fog lamps were fitted in the bumper as well. The 400i we are offering (SN#50953) comes with a well-documented history and has had some very prominent owners over the years. In 1984 the car was imported to the United States and Ferrari of Houston was the first selling dealer. On September 6, 1984, Paul Barnhart Jr. purchased SN#50953 and kept it until January of 1986, when he agreed to sell the car back to Ferrari of Houston. The mileage of the car at that time was 3,303. Ferrari of Houston kept the car for over 2 years before selling it to the next owner, C. Mark Jordan, who designed the first-generation Mazda MX-5. Mr. Jordan's father was world-renowned automobile designer Chuck Jordan. Mr. Jordan kept for just under 6 years. In April of 1992, Mr. Jordan sold SN# 50953 to Ron Tonkin Granturismo, a well known Ferrari dealer in the U.S.The car had 4,970 miles at the time of sale. Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo went on to sell SN# 50953 to Keith E. Crain. Mr. Crain is the well-respected Publisher of both Automotive News and Autoweek magazine. His media empire encompasses 54 brands in 13 locations. Mr. Crain was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2014. Mr. Crain owned the car for many years before agreeing to sell it in June 2017 to Jeff & Joe Cauley, owners of Cauley Ferrari of Detroit. Under the Cauley's ownership, the car received a full service in February 2018 and also had the Classiche Certification completed which the Official Red Book is now present with the car.This is an all numbers matching car.
